News and Advocacy
One of the Chamber’s vital roles in the business community is as your business partner providing representation to government and other organisations, and a voice for business on current issues, proposals and local and regional developments that impact your business.
Some of the advocacy projects we take part in include activities such as publications to influence policy, laws and budgets. We use research, facts, our well established relationships with business, media, council and community, and aim towards messaging to educate, inform and advocate for the business and the wider public community.
We have a number of workstreams that perhaps are not so visible day-to-day, but we are working hard behind the scenes to make Cambridge a great place to work, live and play!

Third Bridge Extension.
In 2021, with mounting pressure from our members to allocate resources to identify and protect a route for the third bridge, the Cambridge Business Chamber became involved in advocacy around our Third Bridge Extension.
A pulse survey of 60 members showed that 83.67% agreed there was a need to prepare for the future NOW in regards to pin pointing the location of a future river crossing.
With requests being made for;
- Priority and funding for thorough evaluation and confirmation of river crossing solutions.
- Commitment and a dedicated work stream within the 2022 Annual Plan to assess alternative crossing sites and committing to one.
- A contingency in the event of a high bridge failure or in-accessible situations.
- Considerations of alternative ways to manage traffic congestion from Leamington and re-route to the low level bridge.
- Considered impact and management of alternative transport growth eg cycling on the town’s bridges
