Originally from Germany, my kiwi partner Rod and I together with our two young children aged 8 and 6 settled in Cambridge in January 2014.
I’ve joined the Cambridge Chamber shortly after moving into town as I was in the process of setting up my own Virtual Assistant business – the smart VA. Offering virtual assistance services, concentrating on online marketing work. I've worked with clients all over the world as well as local businesses. Although I really enjoyed this work and the connection with my clients, I heavily reduced my workload in this field in mid 2016 to concentrate on other projects.
In 2016, Rod and I started Cambridge Kerbing, providing continuous garden and driveway concrete edging to the wider Cambridge area.
In 2017, together with my business partners Emma Sinclair and Rachel O'Reilly, I've created Meraki Workspace - Cambridge's only co-working space. Offering a place for the local business community to meet and work from. Meraki Workspace has also become a partner of the chamber.
Topics that are close to my heart are sustainability and how we can do business and life in a more aware and sustainable way, growing our businesses in a genuine and integer way, supporting businesses who might not find support easily e.g. home-based businesses and mumpreneurs, as well as animal welfare and protection.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE FOR CAMBRIDGE CHAMBER?
I believe a successful chamber is one that creates a platform for the business community to connect and network with other members. One that act as an advocate for businesses and also provides training and education to enable them to grow and develop the individual business.
I have always felt the Chamber of Commerce plays an integral part within not just the local business community but the general community as well. I feel it is a very energetic and active organization with lots of passionate and committed members. I always enjoy attending any of the different meeting and networking events and meeting new people from the community, being present to support and learn from each other. I would like to see the Chamber evolve and expand its existing offerings to cover even more needs and wants from the business community.
THE SKILLS & QUALITIES I WILL BRING TO ACHIEVE THAT SUCCESS
I’ve became a member of the Chamber of Commerce Executive Team at the AGM in 2016 and since then really enjoyed my involvement in the chamber, working together with the other executive members and the work we’ve been doing.
I believe based on my experience in my own businesses as well as voluntary engagements in the past, I can contribute great value to the chamber’s executive committee.
Besides being actively engaged in the First XV committee, I’m also a founding member and “co-host” of the home-based business group Optimum, which is now being held at Meraki Workspace.
